Event Details
One of the lesser-known exhibiting impressionists, Caillebotte was born into the wealth built by his father, yet Caillebotte resisted the idleness associated with the leisured class. He was not only an important member of the Impressionist group, but he supported his friends Monet and Renoir at Argenteuil, while engaging in other activities that became subjects of his paintings including rowing, gardening, and sailing. In all of his pursuits, Caillebotte was intense and fully immersed.
This exhibition, opened at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris in October 2024-January 2025, then travelled to L.A.’s Getty Center and concludes at Chicago’s Art Institute through October 5, 2025. This major exhibit includes more than 120 works—paintings, works on paper, photographs, and other ephemera from throughout Caillebotte’s career. Prof. Thomas Germano will present a visual lecture about Caillebotte’s life and art.
