FROM BIRMINGHAM TO BOTSWANA takes the listener on a journey beginning with the social and political societies of the segregated south and living with Jim Crow laws in the United States. From the coded messages found in the Negro slave songs to the rallying melodic cries of the Civil Rights Movement to the popular music performed on the Broadway stage as well as the dialectic tribal songs of South African folk music, Gwen Moten introduces to the audience a musical voice in our historical journey.
