It’s time to push past the gatekeepers of what makes a movie “great” or “culturally significant” and get a broader view of what’s out there. Kyle Turner has penned "The Queer Film Guide", a selection of 100 of cinema’s greatest queer films that are often overlooked but foundational to the art form and the wider culture. Join us for a special author talk with Kyle himself and a screening of a film from his book, Born in Flames (1983, Not Rated, 1h 20m).
Set ten years after the most peaceful revolution in United States history, this films presents a dystopia in which the issues of many progressive groups - minorities, liberals, gay rights organizations, feminists - are ostensibly dealt with by the government, and yet there are still problems with jobs, with gender issues, with governmental preference and violence. In New York City, in this future time, a group of women decide to organize and mobilize, to take the revolution farther than any man - and many women - ever imagined in their lifetimes.
Join us immediately following the event for an after party hosted by Halo Nightclub at 3297R Long Beach Rd Oceanside, NY 11572. Head to www.halobar.us for more information on their Rainbow Renaissance Festival!
