Event Details
Originally from India as a teenager, Dr. Rohini B. Ramanathan is a resident of Oceanside and Lido Beach. A winner of several arts and literary grants, Rohini considers herself a cultural bridge-builder. Her training and experience in Indian Classical vocal music from a young age and later exposure to Western Classical and church music facilitated her vision of fusing disparate musical traditions. This performance, through voice and piano, will demonstrate the relationship between Western and Indian Classical Music scales; the absolute pitch of one system versus the multiple pitches of the other but reproducing the same scales.
The accompnaying pianist is Rohini's music partner, the well-versed, and classically-trained, Ms. Carol Goodwin of Oceanside.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Huntington Arts Council.
