Join in a discussion of the winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize, Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.

Inspired by the Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield. Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born in a trailer to a single teen mom, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. We follow this unsparing character as he braves the perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses. Reckoning with his own invisibility in a popular culture where even the superheroes have abandoned rural people in favor of cities.

Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk or digitally via Libby with your library card.
